Umicore appoints Park Sang-hoon as UBM Korea’s new Managing Director

Global circular materials technology company Umicore has appointed Park Sang-hoon as the Managing Director representing its Business Group Umicore Battery Materials in Korea. Park began his term on October 15.

Park brings 30 years of industrial and operational experience to Umicore, having held various key positions in Korea at global conglomerate 3M, including Asia Regional Manufacturing (MFG) & Supply Chain Operations Manager and Asia Regional Lean Six Sigma Head. He also served as Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at SolarEdge Energy Storage, a lithium-ion battery system and energy solutions firm. Park holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Hanyang University and Master of Business Administration from Chonnam National University.

Established in 1999 at Cheonan’s Foreign Industrial Complex, Umicore Battery Materials in Korea became the first company in Korea to produce cathode active materials for lithium-ion batteries. In 2005, Umicore opened its first technology center in Cheonan and established a new global R&D center for cathode active materials in 2022 within the same industrial complex where the production plants are located.
