Rechargeable Battery Materials

The Umicore Group, headquartered in Belgium, has built its presence in Korea since 1999. Its Korean Rechargeable Battery Materials (RBM) activities are located in Cheonan, 50 km south of Seoul. Based on Group R&D technology in Belgium and many years of mass production experience in Canada, Umicore RBM Korea has been producing cathode materials for lithium-ion rechargeable batteries since 2000.

Since 2005 Umicore RBM Korea has been expanding its Research & Technology Centre and oversees Umicore’s battery materials research since 2008. In our lab we evaluate battery performance and safety, which enables us to develop high-end and highly reliable battery materials. In addition, we develop optimized production, process and control technologies for the mass production of future rechargeable battery materials.

The Umicore Group aims to achieve a clear leadership in clean mobility materials & recycling. Thanks to our continuous investments in innovative technologies and production capacity Umicore RBM has a global leading position in cathode materials for use in electric vehicles, portable electronics, energy storage systems and power tools.

Umicore RBM Korea operates a consolidated management system through numerous certifications, such as environment (ISO 14001), safety (OHSAS 18001), energy management (ISO 50001), quality (ISO 9001, ISO/TS 16949) and AEO (C-TPAT). In terms of operational excellence, we are operating various high-quality programmes to improve the environment, health and safety, continuous improvement, and employee talent development.
